A cool blue dragonfly is highlighted by the out of focus lily pads in the background.

Great Blue Heron on nest
One one of the many massive stick and branch-laden nests at a natural heron rookery in East Bridgewater Massachusetts, we observed many "great blues" tending eggs and carrying branches to build them. (Nikon D200 with Nikkor 400mm f 3.5 lens).
Shouldered Hawk"

Much less common than the red-tailed hawk in the Northeast, Re-shoulders have similar habits: perching high in tall, dead trees surveying the ground for prey. (Nikon D200 DSLR, Nikkor 400 mm f 3.5 lens)
"Ring-Billed Gull"
Here stands one of the many gulls in a local park, staking out a snowbank, and catching the last rays of the late Winter sun.  (Nikon D200 DSLR, Nikkor 400 mm f 3.5 lens)
"Perched Redtail"
This handsome hawk was close to the edge of the highway when I pulled over and got a couple of frames.  I suppose they wait there for prey along the roadside.

"Dark-Eyed Junco"
This alert junco  waits high in a nearby tree for his chance at the feeder.  Juncos usually come in small groups and prefer to look for seeds on the ground.  (Nikon D200 DSLR, Nikkor 400 mm f 3.5 lens)

I was lucky to grab this shot while wandering around the edge of a pond in the Spring in a local park with my long lens on the tripod.  I have not yet identified the species, though.  (Nikon D200 DSLR, Nikkor 400 mm f 3.5 lens)
A male mallard duck stretches its wing, showing off the irredescent blue patch.
